A Small Island with Endless Wonders

Mauritius is compact enough to cross in a couple of hours, yet rich enough to reward weeks of exploration. From the sacred crater lake of Grand Bassin to the dramatic waterfall trails of Sept Cascades, from the lively harbour of Grand Baie to the ancient volcanic peaks of the Black River Gorges — every corner of the island tells a different story.

SeaSense is positioned on the stunning East Coast, making it an ideal base for day trips in every direction. Our concierge team plans bespoke island itineraries that balance driving time with time at each destination — no rushing, just discovering.

Grand Baie

Once a quiet fishing village, now the island’s most vibrant coastal hub — beaches, boutiques, restaurants and a deeply sheltered bay perfect for watersports.

Grand Bassin

A sacred crater lake believed by Hindus to be fed by the holy Ganges. An extraordinary site — serene, powerful and unlike anything else in the Indian Ocean.

Sept Cascades

Seven waterfalls hidden deep in indigenous forest in the South-West. A challenging but profoundly rewarding trek through some of Mauritius’s most dramatic scenery.

Black River Gorges

The island’s largest national park — home to endemic birds, deep forest trails and the twin natural wonders of Chamarel Falls and the famous Coloured Earth.

Grand Bassin — The Sacred Lake

Grand Bassin is a sacred lake set in the crater of an extinct volcano — believed by Mauritius’s Hindu community to be fed by the waters of the holy Ganges. The site is especially powerful during the Shivaratree festival, when hundreds of thousands of pilgrims make the journey on foot.

Even outside festival season, Grand Bassin is a place of deep tranquility and natural beauty. Ornate temple structures rise from the crater rim, offering views back across the central plateau to the coast.

Grand Baie — The Island's Coastal Hub

Situated on the Northwest coastline, Grand Baie grew from a quiet fishing community into Mauritius’s most popular tourist hub, with exotic beaches, beryl water, a deeply sheltered bay and a vibrant strip of restaurants, boutiques and watersport operators.

A full day in Grand Baie typically includes morning snorkelling in the bay, lunch at one of the harbour restaurants, and an afternoon wandering the shops or taking a glass-bottom boat excursion to nearby islets.
